Welcome to our July Newsletter, a round-up of current projects, trends and news.
Are you sleeping?
The hot summer nights can make our bedrooms uncomfortable to sleep in. Our top tip for a cooler bedroom is to keep your curtains and windows closed during the day to block direct sunlight and limit warm air from coming in. Blackout curtains work best, so if your bedroom curtains are not keeping the sun out, please get in touch and we will be delighted to offer you some solutions designed to keep you cool this summer.
Wow! It’s been hot! We have at least 6 weeks of summer evenings remaining and hopefully more.
We are deliciously into the season for family and friends popping in and some Al Fresco dining. Are you sitting comfortably?
Cushions are so versatile; they can be used on the ground and instantly increase the available seating space. Choose coastal, boho, scandi, muted or whatever mood takes you and create seating options that are just perfect to grab and bring outside for impromptu summer gatherings with family and friends. Now, who has the corkscrew?

Our remnant fabrics – Dress a Girl around the World.
At Niki’s Soft Furnishings, we are passionate about not wasting offcuts of fabrics. Wherever possible we recycle them by donating them to makers who are committed to reducing the impact from the textile industry on the environment. This also applies to fabric that we are on the very odd occasion asked to dispose of, like the old curtains from Hemerdon Village Hall we replaced with beautiful new curtains.
The fabric in the old curtains was perfect for donating to a local maker who used it to make dresses, as below, for a very good cause Dress a girl around the world.
A very sweet dress made using Hemerdon Village Hall old curtains by a local maker.
Dress a girl around the world provides dresses to almost 100 countries. Their ethos is to “serve every woman and girl at risk” and they “believe everyone is worthy of love and respect”. We think this is a very worthy
cause and will certainly donate more fabric to any local maker who supports this amazing charity.
The builders and decorators are very busy at Langdon Court Manor. We have been on-site, measured the windows, and made some gorgeous curtains and roman blinds for the owner’s quarters, which we are hoping to hang very soon.
We are excited to share more with you, so look out for a progress report in our August newsletter.
Langdon Court is a 16 century Grade II* listed Jacobean Manor House Hotel.
Yes we are still looking for that exceptional upholsterer.
As you know, we love upholstery projects. Re-upholstery is so transformative and fulfills our company’s sustainability objectives. Demand is high but our poor old upholsterer needs to pass this job on to a younger person. We are looking for a special person to join our team. We need an upholsterer with a very high level of experience to take over the role. Our new upholsterer must have a passion for the role, be creative, but must also be excited about passing on their skills to help grow the new generation of upholstery experts.
Does the thought of working on a variety of exciting upholstery projects with the opportunity to pass on your knowledge and expertise to a growing team sound like your ideal next challenge?
If you think you have what it takes, or know anyone who might be interested in the role, then please get in touch.
